Triple Paste AF can trace its roots back to a blended combination of multiple ingredients taught to dermatologists and pediatricians throughout the 20th century. When patients suffering from a rash needed a protective, water resistant, healing barrier the pharmacist would be instructed to mix a “Triple Paste” consisting of white petrolatum, zinc oxide paste and aluminum acetate solution. Today’s Triple Paste AF utilizes both time tested healing ingredients with the antifungal ingredient miconazole nitrate, chosen for its state of the art combination of safety and efficacy. All of the active ingredients in major brands are recognized as safe and effective by the FDA.The main difference between these products is the base or vehicle which delivers the active ingredient. These bases are sometimes powders, which can be very drying, but not at all protective. They can be creams and lotions which are moisturizing, however, this may not be helpful depending on the condition being treated. Also, particularly for the creams, the retail packages are generally quite small; almost always less than one ounce, often smaller than a half ounce.
